Where words fail, music speaks.
“Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul”- Plato
I never knew the power of music until I was older. Having danced for many years I enjoyed listening to music, but when I got older I started to really listen to music….the lyrics, the beats, the rhythm. Music has the ability to help us connect with our emotions or help us change our emotions. Music also connects us with memories. Every time I hear ‘Good Vibrations’ (feat. Loleatta Holloway) by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch I am immediately reminded of being a little girl watching the “older girls” dance on stage. It was one my favorite dances to watch; from the choreography to the energy that they create, it still puts a smile on my face and makes to want to get up and dance…I still remember some of the choreography! Next time you’re listening to music, really listen to it. Listen to the words, to the rhythm, to the beats, to the different instruments, do you notice any physical sensations in your body. Mindful music listening can be a great way to pause and enjoy the moment.
